What Is Occupational Therapy?
Occupational therapy (OT) helps people do the everyday activities that matter most: at home, at work, and in the community. As a new graduate OT at EnableWorks, I support clients to build independence, confidence, and wellbeing through handson strategies, early intervention, and personalised goal setting.
So… what does Occupational Therapy actually look like?
OT is all about understanding a person’s daily routines, challenges, and environment, then finding practical ways to make life and work easier. This might include:
Assessing how someone moves through their day
Recommending equipment or workplace tweaks
Running manual handling training
Supporting return-to-work plans
Collaborating with employers, case managers, physiotherapists, and families
Often, we look at both home and work environments. For example, if someone with a knee injury faces stairs in both places, we explore creative solutions, like temporary ground-floor access, installing handrails, or adjusting duties so they can stay included without delaying recovery.
Who Benefits From OT?
Children: building skills for play, learning, and independence.
Adults: recovering from injury, illness, or managing longterm conditions—especially when returning to work.
Seniors: staying safe, mobile, and independent at home and in their communities.
How EnableWorks Supports Clients
At EnableWorks, we’re all about enabling safe, meaningful participation in daily life and work. Our holistic approach considers physical health, emotional wellbeing, family support, spiritual beliefs, and the environment - because all of these shape recovery and independence.

Success Stories
Back Injury Recovery: After a slip and fall, a client returned to their full role through the Quick Response programme. Teamwork between the OT, physiotherapist, GP, employer, and the client’s own commitment made recovery smooth and sustainable.
Building Confidence Through Manual Handling: Another client found that personalised manual handling sessions helped speed up recovery while boosting confidence in safe movement and injury prevention.
Our Mission
At EnableWorks, we aim to help workers and businesses create healthy, safe workplaces so everyone can thrive. We do this through collaboration, practical support, and evidence-based OT practice.
If you or your organisation could benefit from occupational therapy, we’d love to help you find the right solutions for safe, sustainable work and everyday living.
